Learn & Skate - Street art liefdadigheidsveiling - voor RPO (Roule Petit Ougandais)

All proceeds from this auction will go to "Roule Petit Ougandais" Catawiki is proud to embark once again on another exciting adventure under the guidance of Jean-Claude Géraud, a pro skater with a heart of gold. After stumbling upon a video of young Ugandans riding around in a haphazardly made skate park, he decided to create an organisation with the aim of shipping skateboarding goods to these children and thus helping them develop the practice of skateboarding in Uganda. This generous idea was a great success and has turned many young people away from delinquency. Jean-Claude Géraud originally comes from the Ivory Coast and arrived in France when he was 8 years old. Now 29 years old, he lives in the southwest of France, in the sunny city of Toulouse. He previously worked as a salesman and founded his own company ‘City Of Talents’, with the aim of promoting urban, contemporary and international artists and to develop urban art worldwide. Passionate about skateboarding and urban art, in 2014 he decided to create a skating organisation called ‘Roule petit Ougandais’, in order to help poor people and offer them the chance of having a skate park and access to education in the most remote and poor countries in the world. His first action was undertaken in Uganda, in 2016. Following this project, he decided to get even more involved in urban art and in 2016, he created a street art agency in order to promote urban artists. Jean-Claude is very much interested in this area because ‘we learn from it every day and above all, we meet exceptional and enriching people’. He also adds, ‘My hope is to be able to do this full time for the rest of my life’. Catawiki is organising an exhibition in collaboration with New York curator Melissa McCaig-Welles, which will consist of skateboards customised by international artists during the Wheels and Waves event in France. These skateboards will be shown at the exhibition and then auctioned on Catawiki. This auction aims to raise funds for the Mongolian Uukhai Skateboarding Association, helping youths build the very first skate park in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar, this coming August 2018. If enough money is raised, a library will also be built for the young children living in yurts outside Ulaanbaatar.
