Davis, C. and G. Robeson - Narrative of the North polar Expedition - 1876
Cartografie, Geschiedenis, Reizen - Aantal: 1 - Richly illustrated

The complete title of this book is; Narrative of the North Polar expedition. U.S. ship Polaris, Captain Ch. F. Hall commanding.
It was published in Washington, by the Government Printing Office., and contains one engraved portrait, one engraved frontispiece and 32 wood engraved plates including two that are tinted, and six maps. It is bound in its original green decorated cloth, with a nice large gilt vignette on the front board.
It describes a famous North Pole expedition with the ship Polaris, mainly to Grinnell Island and parts of Greenland. It is an account of Hall's third expedition during 1871-1873. The rescue of the crew is detailed in Markham's Whaling Cruise to Baffin's Bay (1874). Hall was an indefatigable Arctic Explorer and tried endlessly to discover a north-west passage and to determine the fates of the Franklin and Crozier Expedition. This expedition ended in calamity with the death of Hall on his return from Grinnell Island, but it was the most northerly point yet to be reached by any vessel. Boards a bit rubbed at edges and front board partially stained. Frontispiece detached and marginally damp-stained. One plate in photocopy, otherwise good..

Reference: Arctic Bibl. 18382.
