Croton named this model "WASP" for the USAAF Auxiliary, Women Airforce Service Pilots, formed Q1 1943. For more details about AAFES/Crotons, Google: 'CROTON - Accurator Medicus Field Watch - AR 90102 - Men - Circa 1951 The Korean War' and read History & Notes.
Space doesn't allow me to fully describe this Wasp's background, so examine the photos carefully. They show its condition and how it is put together. Not many come to the market, former owners' families cherishing these watches which were produced in limited numbers (circa 1,500). Remember that most US military watches had to be purchased by individuals, generally through AAFES (Army & Airforce Exchange Service).
There are two photos of WASP pilots, Shirley Slade and Elizabeth Gardner from the book, "Silver Wings".
This is a rare WW2 period watch. Its AS 1194 17 jewel sweep second movement with Incabloc has been serviced within the last two years and keeps time. Google 'AS 1194 ranfft' for information.
The WASP will be carefully wrapped (see my Feedback and bid with confidence!) and shipped via Colissimo Insured/Signed For.

ANTMAT IS AN ABBREVIATION OF ANTERIOR MATTERS (PAST TIMES!)
I have been collecting good vintage watches for more than 50 years, starting with Tavannes/Cymas and later Crotons. The Croton collection started following a chance meeting with a retired USAAF Colonel at the US Airforce base at Lakenheath, Suffolk in 1982. He had retired to the UK having married a local girl post WW2.
When I retired to France over 12 years ago, I started collecting French watches; LIP, YEMA and various interesting Divers' watches from the Jacques Cousteau era and also Clintons with France Ébauches movements and cases assembled in the USA!
My first watch was a Tavannes/Cyma issued to my mother during the London 'Blitz' in WW2. Like many of my watches, this one has an interesting history. My mother joined the ATS (The Auxiliary Territorial Service) early in 1941 and became one of a fleet of drivers who chauffeured the likes of Winston Churchill and later General Eisenhower.
One day one of her friends was a couple of minutes late picking up Mr. Churchill and was given a 'rollicking' by the great man:
“Why are you late?”, he roared. “Time is precious and we do not have enough of it. Time is running out – we must not, indeed we cannot waste it!”
In tears my mother's friend replied, “I am sorry Sir but I do not have a watch and the clock in the car must be a bit slow.”
Tearing a page off his notebook he scribbled something on it and said, “Take this to the Ministry of Supply the very minute you drop me off and demand to see the Minister personally by my order. My mother's friend gave the Minister Churchill's note who said to her, “Tell Mr. Churchill that his order will be placed immediately and you girls will all receive watches as soon as possible.”
The watches arrived two weeks later! How they came is another story!
So that was watch number one which my mother gave me when I went away to school about 13 years later. I still have it and it still keeps time.
Once I started work, I bought a watch a month for about 20 years and then on average 1.5 a month for the next 20 years. This formed the basis of my collection though I still buy the odd watch for parts or sometimes because I feel like it!
I have always cared about my watches and when I sell one it is like losing an old friend. Accordingly I try and make sure that they are in good order and checked over or serviced before being well packed. Furthermore I am proud to say that I have now sold over 1,100 good vintage watches on Catawiki. They sometimes come back to be fixed - vintage watches can be temperamental so need looking after. It is a privilege to own one - after all they are a piece of history like old cars and houses!
Finally I strongly recommend that you read my Feedback; it tells its own story!
Well I must go - time flies when you're my age,
