A Chinese (Hebei or Henan Province) cold painted earthenware covered tripod vessel ('ding'), Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8), ca 23 cm. high and 26 cm. Ø.
The horizontal ellipsoidal body on curved legs, decorated in orange yellow with a band of spiraling motifs, the possibly associated domed cover with perforated flattened top, decorated in yellow and white with a band of lozenges, circles and dots, remains of plant roots (see image #18), rim chip (image #15), presumably, but not obviously restored. some pictures of other example of the same period have been added.
