Mario Tozzi (Fossombrone, 1895 – Saint-Jean-du-Gard, 1979) attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna alongside Giorgio Morandi, Licini and Sepo Pozzati, following Majani and Terzi courses.
Two years later, in 1915 after graduation and leaving the Academy, he received the Grand Prize of the Ministry of Public Education.
In 1919 he married Marie Therèse Lemair and settled with her in Paris.
Along with Campigli, de Chirico, de Pisis, Paresce, Savinio and Severini, he founded the Group des Sept (also known as Les Italiens de Paris). Conceptually and aesthetically their style refers to metaphysical painting.
He has participated on several occasions in Venice Biennale.
