Welcome to Passion d'Orient:
This is a Heriz rug: they are made of high-quality wool that makes them resistant and very suitable for public spaces and dining rooms, where they are subject to more frequent wear. These oriental rugs are hand-knotted in north-eastern Iran and often feature large, central geometric roundels. **
Heriz rugs are considered to be among the most beautiful plain rugs in the whole of Iran. ** Heriz is a city located in the north-eastern region of Iran, near the city of Tabriz, and it is its proximity to this important rug production centre that has influenced local weavers, particularly since the early 19th century, giving rise to this type of characteristic rug. They generally exhibit great durability and strength, with a fairly large knot and are, by far, among the most resistant rugs in Persia. The designs originate from the traditional medallion patterns of the neighbouring city of Tabriz, but are very stylised and reinterpreted in a style and a colour theme that are completely different from the latter ones. Heriz roundels have stylised star shapes that can extend almost to the edge of the rugs. The field is decorated with stems that bend at right angles to connect serrated leaves and rosettes.
