Welcome to Passion d'Orient:
Sanandaj, formerly known as Senneh, is located in the heart of Kurdistan, about 150 km from Hamadan. Its name means fortress of Sanan. The name of this city is very famous because it also gave its name to the Persian knot, which in fact is also called Senneh. But, paradoxically, in the rugs made in this region, the Turkish knot is used (Ghiordes). These are traditionally rugs of a small size, although in contemporary production, demand from foreign markets has also encouraged the production of larger sizes. The decoration consists of repetition over the whole field of tightly decorated, tiny decorative motifs from the most frequent Herati to the boteh, to the so-called hasht goli (eight flowers). These patterns may typically be enclosed within concentric diamonds of contrasting background colour.
