1997 Château Arnauton , Fronsac
Informations on Château Arnauton:
This 25-hectare vineyard planted on the southern slopes of the Fronsac mound has changed hands several times. This wine, which owes almost everything to the merlot, immediately impresses with its intense and deep color, to which a complex nose responds, combining blackberry, black cherry and very ripe blackcurrant with an elegant oakiness reminiscent of vanilla. and roasting (grilled hazelnut). His mouth surprises with its fat and tannins perfectly extracted, dense and silky. If the wood is very marked, the long finish is marked by a pleasant return of black fruits.
The AOC Fronsac, located west of Libourne, is bordered by two rivers, the Dordogne and Isle and covers no less than seven municipalities: The River, Saint-Germain-de-la-Rivière, Saint-Michel- de-Fronsac, Saint Aignan, Saillans and Galgon. The appellation covers 850 ha and produces only red wines (around 44,000 hl / year).
The climate of Fronsac is the same as that of the Libourne. It is a favorable climate for the good maturity of the grapes (temperate oceanic). The clay and limestone soils consist of molasses of Fronsadais (mixture of clay and sandstone) are conducive to the production of great red wines. Here, it is the merlot that dominates the blends of grape varieties (85% of the plantations). It is often associated with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The mouth of Fronsac is balanced, robust and rich. These wines are distinguished by a tannic structure with aromas of red fruits and spices. Note that the wines of Fronsac are wines of guard.
