Vrouwelijk beeldje - Luena Luvale - Angola

Vrouwelijk beeldje - Luena Luvale - Angola
Midden 20e eeuw

18 cm.
Former collection Portugal, information about its collection will be transmitted upon request.
It has the same provenance as the Chokwe mask, lot 33518483, proposed in this auction.
Wood, beads.

This little figurine from northern Angola represents a woman with a characteristic hairdo. Many traditional scarifications ornament its body.
The posture is classical, the long trunk is supported by little legs, the arms are placed against the body, the hands are in front of the torso.
The beads are a decoration which was added later than at the time of its carving, by its last owner.
This piece celebrates femininity. It comes from an ethnic group close to the Chokwe, the Luena or the Lovale, established in Angola, at the south of the D.R of Congo and Zambia.
