Voiture (1597-1648) was a gallant and courtier all his life, shining in the salons and at gambling. His epistolary talent earned him a long career in France as a fashionable prose writer, and his poems excelled in their mannerist and expressive tone, even though he knew how to be trivial when it was necessary. He was a key figure in the literary scene at the beginning of the 17th century, a true figure of Molière.
He knew great fame during how own time and remains emblematic of the 17th century.
