An antique Sinhalese porcupine quill box, Galle, Sri Lanka, circa 1900.
Porcupine quill boxes made up a small part of the decorative output of Southern Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Porcupine quill boxes were finely inlaid with bone discs and porcupine quills. They were highly valued for their rich timbers and intricate craftsmanship. The production of porcupine quill boxes and furniture falls between around 1850 and 1900.
In good condition. The lid is slightly bent on the front right. The key is missing. The pictures are part of the description.
