Mail-order catalogue for the famous London-based Asprey company located on New Bond Street.
Made up of 250 plates, 43 of which are in colour.
Original edition of this superb mail-order catalogue covering the entire Asprey range: jewellery, watches, luggage, silverware, crockery and glassware, furniture, “smoking items,” and much more.
Dating is uncertain, but surely predates the Second World War. The only copy that could be institutionally traced is at the V & A, and is dated “1930-1939?” The presence of German-made binoculars would make it likely that it dates to before 1939, and the styles presented certainly seem to correspond to the mid to late 1930s.
Included with the catalogue is a complementary piece: "The Story of Royal Worcester China" par John Drinkwater, published on the occasion of the opening of the Royal Worcester Room.
Asprey has been a supplier to the royal family since 1862.
The 1920s and 30s were a golden age for Asprey. It embraced the new style, now known as Art Deco, introduced by the Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1925. Its emblematic designs reflect this new energy and originality, Asprey catalogues from this time period are beautiful anthologies of luxury products. It was the age of the cocktail and Asprey adopted it, creating unique and iconic pieces. 5Asprey Heritage).
The corners are slightly rubbed. Some marks on the front cover. 2 plates have small stains.
