Large percussion revolver, .44 calibre, single action, 6 shots, patented by Ebenezer Starr in 1857.
From the time of the American civil war, the simple action ‘Army’ model was made from 1863 to 1865.
Altogether, approximately 54,000 Starr revolvers were manufactured:
- 1858 model, Double Action .36 Caliber Percussion Navy Revolver (1 to 3000)
- 1858 model, Double Action .44 Caliber Percussion Army Revolver (3000 to 23,000)
- 1863 model, Double Action .44 Caliber Percussion Army Revolver (23,000 to 54,000)
The serial number 28715 is marked on the frame (under the barrel and under the hammer) and on the cylinder.
Markings on the frame: STARR ARMS Co. NEW YORK (the markings on one side are almost worn off).
No oxidation marks, quite rare, its colour was probably restored.
The barrel is in fairly good condition inside, grooves clearly visible and well marked.
The chambers of the cylinder are in good condition.
Original grips in good condition but one has been repaired (a small repair).
In good working order, no looseness.
Very nice collectable weapon in well-preserved condition.
