Raimundo de Peñafort - late Carolingian manuscript - 1270/1330

Omschrijving
Raimundo de Peñafort - late Carolingian manuscript - 1270/1330
Recht - Aantal: 1 - Manuscript

On the scribe: they were possibly copyist monks, commissioned by a cathedral college, where canonical laws were studied.

About his authorship: We believe that these are the Decretals of Gregory IX, commissioned to Raimundo de Peñafort by the Pope.

About the text: A sheet handwritten in both sides, in 3 colours. The initials are blue and red.

Its structure: 4 column text. The central area is framed with a text with larger letters. And two columns to gloss the central text.

Script: later Carolingian minuscule, pre-Gothic, Iberian area of influence.

Subject matter: academic, university, canon law. It could be the Decretales of Gregory IX, promulgated by this Pope in 1234.

About the manuscript: The manuscript belonged to a lost medieval codex. We think it’s a loose sheet, used as cover for a very later book of the 16th century (post-incunable) and that’s why it has survived. Proof of this is the trace of natural glue on the edges (shown in the photo).

Date of writing: late 13th century-early 14th century. In the dynasty of the crown of Aragon between the reign of James I the Conqueror and Peter IV the Ceremonious.

Origin: Northern Spain, area of political influence of the Crown of Aragon.

Conservation: Deficient, it has suffered a bookworm attack, different holes along the sheet.

Note for the buyer: Please, this manuscript is unique. It’s weak. It requires good storage conditions: to be kept out of sunlight or moisture, good ventilation, away from any possible damage.
