Tiles from the 19th century - Lisbon Portugal
In Portugal another kind of aesthetic tile is made with equal decorative strength, but less expensive, customized to the needs. Applied between the 16th and 17th centuries, these compositions are mostly made by monochromatic tiles between two colours (white-blue or white-green), where it shows a diagonal strength mesh and a great visual dynamism.
The introduction to the tile reduces the length of time of the previous process by repeating tile modules.
The Pier by José António Pereira, owed its name to a building that the merchant built in the first half of the 19th century. It was built in the ''Landfill'', and already appears referred in municipal documents – such as surveys, deeds of land sales – 1838, 1845, 1878.
