It is a masterpiece created by CJ Buck (CEO of Buck Knives) and designed by a small company, Qual-A-Tec, in 1981 in California. The BuckMaster became the American icon of survival knives in the 1980s and helped develop the famous M9 bayonet of the U.S. Army. Production was 2600 units per year.

Notes: Its main feature, patented, is the presence of two screw harpoons/hooks. The function of the hooks is simply anchoring. This knife can in fact be used as a throwing hook by attaching a rope to the ring on the pommel. The manufacturer guarantees that the hooks hold up to 600 pounds. The Navy Seals had specifically requested a knife that could be used underwater in order to anchor vehicles to an underwater point, which is why the knife is made entirely of steel.
