Some History about ERDAL :

On October 23, 1867, Friedrich Christoph Werner and Georg Werner, descendants of Wolfgang Werner, the bell ringer of St. Quintin in Mainz, founded the Gebrüder Werner wax factory. Georg Mertz joined them in 1878 and added a second name to the company. Since this year, the wax products factory has been operating under the name of Werner & Mertz.

After Georg Mertz's death in 1887, his brother-in-law, Philipp Adam Schneider, took over his shares and he managed the company together with Friedrich Christoph Werner. After a fire at the factory at 16 Mittlere Bleiche in Mainzer Bleichenviertel, on September 30, 1896, the new factory building was moved into the new factory building at Mainzer Erthalstraße 5.
After the death of Philip Adam Schneider on August 10, 1901, his son Rudolf took over the management of the company at the age of 19. From 1903, he ran it together with his brother, Hermann Schneider.

In 1908, a great fire destroyed a residential and factory building on Erthalstraße, and in the fall, new factory buildings were moved to Ingelheimer Aue. After a fire in 1917, in the summer of 1918, production continued at the same location, in a newly built plant. The new building also houses the "Frog Tower" ("Froschturm"), the logo of the "Erdal" brand in Mainz to this day. In 1944, 80 percent of the company's land was destroyed during a major Allied bomber attack, but the Frog remained intact. On May 3, 1946, Frankfurt radio reported: "The world-famous Erdal factory is back in production."
