A really beautiful and fine Baule mask, wood carved, some signs of kaolin paired areas still visible, scarification to temples and forehead, great linear hair composition and lovely patina showing good signs of handling and having been danced in within a tribal context.
Baule people, Ivory Coast, presumed age first part of the 2oth century.
The back of the mask bears the following three sets of markings:
- number "63" in old white chalk marking
- collection label number 253.
