Beautiful stylized NGIL mask of the FANG tribe from Gabon.
The ngil (gorilla) masks were worn by members of a male society of the same name during the initiation of new members and the persecution of wrong-doers.
A mask with a very nice white and brown patina. The heart shape in the face, the prominent nose, the high forehead and the puckered mouth are typical features of these masks.
