Beautiful stylized Okuyi mask of the PUNU tribe from Gabon.
A PUNU mask embodies the close connection between the world of the living and the dead in African beliefs. They are mostly feminine in nature.
The number and position of the scarifications varies per style or ethnic group. These distinctive signs, called mabinda, were made in children around the age of ten to fourteen.
A mask with a typical finely worked hairdress with horns and a very nice white and brown patina.
