The Tji Wara, also spelled Chiwara or Ciwara, represents a stylized antelope and is used in different dance rituals. The Bamana ask for favorable conditions for their agricultural activities and a rich harvest. The ciwara is fixed on its dancers head, usually on a hat binded of reed. This is a vertical female ciwara type, Segou style.
The Bamana are Mali´s largest ethnical group and have strong roots in agriculture. Over the centuries they developped sophisticated rituals to ask for spiritual guidance and agricultural succes.
