in impressive photogravure printing and better than usual condition.

Condition:
Inside first and last blank page lightly foxed, otherwise fresh and clean with no marks and no foxing. Outside lightly used with sharp corners and better than usual; some stains at the bottom right corner of the front and at the bottom left corner of the rear side. Spine lightly teared at the end, but much more better than usual (very often loose or taped or with missing parts). Overall fine condition.

Scarce, highly impressive german photobook title.

Erna Lendvai-Dircksen (1883-1962) was a German photographer known for a series of volumes of portraits of rural individuals from throughout Germany. During the Third Reich, she also photographed for eugenicist publications and was commissioned to document the new autobahn and the workers constructing it.

Lendvai-Dircksen published her portraits of rural Germans as "Das deutsche Volksgesicht" (The Face of the German Volk) in 1932. It was continued in multiple volumes portraying different regions of the Reich beginning in 1942, both under that title and as Das germanische Volksgesicht (The Face of the Germanic Volk), now including volumes on, for example, Flanders and Norway.
