A superb and impressive 19th-century ventilation grill. A beautifully crafted and very rare piece, made of finely cast brass with neo-gothic decoration and copper. Each half can be opened making it possible to regulate the air. Air ventilation was a luxury in 19th-century houses and used the natural air current between the floors to regulate the temperature and improve air quality. Authentic ventilation grills such as this one are very rare to find and would look beautiful in a restored period building or as a unique design element.
