A superb 18th-century oil painting by a painter of the Liege school, depicting the scene of "Corpus Cristi", Jesus during the Last Supper when he gives the bread to the apostles, saying "This is my body given to you". In front of him is a chalice (the Holy Grail), flanked by two angels, that he offers, saying "Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood...".
Unsigned, but a painting of undoubtedly high quality, the finely the face, surrounded by halo, is painted with confident yet delicate brushstrokes.
Oil on canvas mounted on panel.
24 X 21 cm (the panel)
31 X 27,2 cm framed
Overall fairly good condition with small scattered paint losses, flaking and probably minor restorations. Framed in an oval wooden frame, the painting was originally probably oval, but was probably altered with small loss from the edges.
